I think it's a great idea to bring Town Hall to downtown Riverhead.
I am more inclined towards the Ostrander Ave site than the other 2 proposals. Too bad they didn't think about it when Riverhead Bldg Supply was giving the building away. But still, better late than never. |

It's real easy, the taxpayers can't afford to pay for one. Remember we're paying for a Fire Station. Maybe they can rent space from the new Fire Department. Looks big enough to have multiple condos on the second floor. What a joke. And where is the $100K that was stolen? Wil it be repaid? Where is the News Review? |

Either someone is buying up property near Union Ave in the last year or so or something else is going on down there. I see they cleared up a lot of the area that had wild grass growing all over the place. I wonder if all that is a part of this masterplan and who is involved.

There is, I believe no argument about the need for a new Town Hall, but certainly we can come up with locations that are better than those suggested so far. Ostrander Avenue- Town Hall hidden behind the RR tracks and requiring residents to park across the street - now isn't that convenient?? The Elks- almost in Aquebogue- not bad parking but requires complete demolition and all new construction. 2nd Avenue firehouse- poor access, building inadequate and requires condemning adjacent properties, to say nothing of requiring a constant police presence just to protect Town employees and residents from local drug dealers, and muggers- what a great neighborhood!
If we peak under this rug of activity generated by Town Hall in search for a New Town Hall, we will see the real dirt- procrastination, myopic vision, and just plain old mediocrity. What we will not see is leadership that is responsible, creative, and visionary. Poor Riverhead, stuck in the same old rut with no hope of ever getting out... Have a good one... |

What is also really sad are the sycophants who are marched out to speak at Town Hall hearings to try to fake out the general public with statements like , "If we don't close this deal, no one will ever look at our town again "!
Gee, I wonder, who is looking our for the best interests of our town? It seems that the priority after the day is done, is more individual jobs for family members of these sponges who for generations have been feeding off our local government's trough. I thought I heard our Supervisor say that the buyers of properties in question are picking up our legal tab. In effect, that leaves us with NO REPRESENTATION. Deal making seems to have trumped leadership. Moving Riverhead forward? To where? How very, very tragic! |

You can start such a party Jerry but you'll have a tough time keeping it going. Sadly this is the way things work in this country. They all look out for each other's interests at the end of the day, no matter what party they belong to.
You have to become a part of the system first if you intend on changing it. But the fact is, even honest minded people lose their focus once they are in the system and they get addicted to the "fat" thus ignoring the very same battlefield they came from. |

The solution isn't always just doing away with government employees. The real concern for Riverhead is having an administrative workforce that knows how to run their departments and assess the performance of their employees. We may have many "hard" working employees on the Town payroll, but what we lack are employees who work "smart"- that is their skill sets match the work responsibilities and requisite function of their government agency/department/unit. There is little in our Town government to point to serious concern for proper management of our scant resources (your tax dollars) with performance evaluation, functional analyses of work tasks, correct matches with job title and job functions/tasks and appropriate choices of the best qualified individuals for the assorted job titles. Our Town workforce has been the full employment act for certain families for generations without regard for competencies and excellence. I suggest we start with an audit of our workforce and develop a performance evaluation rubric that will allow for dismissal and replacement of those whose performance is below par. Contract negotiations are coming up- now is the time for the Town to develop specific proposals that will result in a workforce that performs in a manner acceptable to the residents.
