Is it Mangano time |
Lead | |
|
Word has it there may be an upset in the making. No one expected Mangano to come out campaigning the way he has. Time will tell.

The truth is Mangano will not come within 15 points of Tom Suozzi. This could change if the GOP ties Suozzi to Obama. I doubt they have the courage to do that.

Hats off to Mmoryr. You called this one weeks ago. Win or lose Tom Suozzi has been damaged by all this and mangano can come back to fight another day.

Absentee & military ballots | ||

The counting starts today. Right now before the counts the official count is that suozzi is ahead by 106 votes.....My Prediction......Ed Mangano is the new county executive, and marquoris is the new comptroller. |

Its Mangano | ||

The machines have been recanvassed and Mangano is up by 32 votes. Weinstein is down by alot and Belisi is winning. Today the paper ballots (absentee,
military) will start to be counted. This will be interesting. Thank god there are no chads.

It is now conceivable that Ed Mangano will become our County Executive and the Republicans will gain another seat in the legislature. How did this happen? It
can not be just an anti-incumbent wave.

Agreed
He should have pitched for the Lighthouse Project as hard as possible. |

Will the Democrats get enough dead people to vote by absentee ballots from the Great Beyond?
If this was Chicago or Massachusetts the election would not be in doubt. |

Newsday now reports that Mangano has a 497 vote lead. Unless something completely unexpected happens, Ed Mangano has pulled off the greatest upset in Nassau
politics. Mmoryr called this trend a month before the election. Still hard to see how Tom Suozzi could have lost this race.

Hahaha loved your comment about the dead vote and you were spot on when you mentioned chicago and Mass. You forgot Texas the king of the dead vote. LBJ won
his first position with the dead vote. He received more dead votes than his opponent. Bacl to Nassau CE. Like I said anything can still happen while
counting the paper however I would be shocked at this point if Mangano lost. I was able to call it this way because of being able to listen and keeping my
mouth shut. The negative talk about suozzi in all circles told the story. The story will be if Mangano wins that , Mangano did not win, suozzi lost. It will
now be up to mangano to show people why he should be re-elected in 4 years. Make no mistake about it this was Suozzis election to win or lose, Mangano did not
bring anything to the table at all. Suozzi shot himself in the foot many times and people saw it. It is suozzis inability to communicate and his inability to
understand what the people wanted. We want our parks, not rented out but neatly kept for our use, after all we pay for this. Instead he rented many out, gave
some away to other municipalities and the budget never changed. It should have gone down. His home energy tax pissed off most people and again his inability
to understand what the people want added to this. His stance on the lighthouse really pissed people off. The hearings were loaded up by wang and suozzi with
people that only understood one thing. Here is a chance to make big bucks. The problem you see is "We the People" do not want such a large scale
project. Too many problems with water, sewage, traffic and with projects this large the inconviience of being able to get to hofstra, NCC and other areas.
The people spoke loud and clear with a petition to scale it back, yet you will never read about that in newsday. Kate Murray got it right!!! She is crossing
her T's and dotting her I's on this one. The people surrounding the proposed project have for the most part said the same thing. SCALE IT BACK, but
again Newsday will never print it. Ok time to get off my soap box.......MM

Interesting take by Pat Caddell yesterday. He believes that the defeats of Andy Spano and Tom Suozzi indicates that the Democrats are in big trouble with
suburban voters. They tend to be more independent and this is a good indication that they are moving away from the Democratic party.
If that's true, we could have major gains for the GOP next year. |

Not bad for a guy who was behind on election night by 236 votes. I believe the heavy democrat areas have been counted, not completely sure but thats what I
have been told. This week should tell the story.

I have to agree with Veritas.
This story deserves more play. Ed Mangano was a David battling Goliath. Regardless of party he deserves credit. Instead newsday posts a dreary spin cycle piece about how Ed must now "face the rain". The times does a piece about Suozzi's now uncertain future. Maybe if there was more focus about the uncertainties of nassau taxpayers' futures, Tom would have been reelected. |

Yes it is | ||
WildThing wrote: Yes , Suozzi conceeded today and so did the comptroller. Nassau will be under full republican control again, but for how long. Mr. Mangano must be serious as well as the legislature. If they keep doing business as usual they will be ineffective and will last only the 4 years. The people of Nassau need tax relief. its time. I hope mangano is up to the job. |

Mangano is in a great position. He just needs to work hard and stay grounded. That was Suozzi's problem - always looking to move up.
