Nassau County residents are getting a Labor Day weekend surprise - 13 more intersections with red light cameras to catch violators.
They join the five sites already in operation for the program that County Executive Thomas Suozzi hopes will increase safety and help raise $2 million for Nassau this year.
The additional red light camera intersections were announced late Wednesday and will become operational at 12:01 a.m. Friday, authorities said.
When the program is fully operational, the cameras will be at a total of 50 intersections.
The 13 new intersections are:
BALDWIN Grand Avenue & Merrick Road
BELLMORE Newbridge Road & Bellmore Avenue
HICKSVILLE Broadway/ Hicksville Road & Old Country Road
HICKSVILLE Old Country Road & Jerusalem Avenue
HICKSVILLE/PLAINVIEW Old Country Road & South Oyster Bay Road
INWOOD/LAWRENCE Nassau Expressway & Rockaway Turnpike
ISLAND PARK Long Beach Road & Austin Boulevard/Empire Boulevard
MASSAPEQUA PARK Merrick Road & Park Boulevard/Harbor Lane
NORTH WANTAGH Wantagh Avenue & Old Jerusalem Road
OCEANSIDE Long Beach Road & Daly Boulevard
OCEANSIDE Long Beach Road & Mott Street
UNIONDALE Earle Ovington Boulevard & Charles Lindbergh Boulevard
WOODMERE Peninsula Boulevard & Woodmere Boulevard
Thank you for the update on this important issue. It is good to see Nassau county implementing these type of measures to protect us and to raise revenues from those who thing they can flaunt the law. We can only hope more of these are installed.
