New Red Light Cameras |
Lead | |
|
Suozzi said many times that this was for safety not for money. In todays newsday he is taking two cameras down because they lay in the village area which
means the village would get the money. Yep suozzi you are a compassionate slob. You have made the county worse than it ever has been. You have taxed us to
the hilt, given away many of our parks and now this. Your motto is #$@! THE PEOPLE OF NASSAU!! TIME FOR YOU TO GO!!!!!!

I think the red light cameras are a good idea. Even if it is for the money that is fine. Why should these people gget away with breaking the law just because
there is not a policman or woman there to catch them as they go through the red light. They should put up more of these cameras and maybe drivers will learn to
respect the privilidge of driving and learn to respect those of us walking. If you don't run a red light you don't have anything to complain about.

LynbrookBridges wrote: NYSCPL says that a violation must be wittnessed by an officer. Presence of the officer at the scene. There is an item in this country that we all have DUE PROCESS. The camera takes a picture of the license plate not the driver, thus anyone could be driving that car. Why should the owner be penalized for the mistake of another. Second this was supposed to be for safety. Two dangerous intersections were choosen but now because they lay in a village and the village would get the money, suozzi has ordered them taken down. so much for safety. No this is unconstitutional as you will see when it is challenged. |

Mr Mmoryr
I do not belive the owner of the car is issued points for the violation that will be supported by a photograph of the incident that would be in question. If the car was stolen I am sure the owner would have filed a valid police report to support that incident and I would agree in those cases the fine should be waived. However at the end of every day it is the owners responsibility to make sure that the person driving the vehicle that is responsible for the incident is a responsible person who obeys traffic laws. I would think that since the violation has a time and date the owner can figure out who they lent the car to and aske them to pay but just like if the car is involved in an accident the person sues the owner the same here. They should put these camers on every corner. |

Mr Mmoryr
It will not be ruled not constitional as red light camers have been used in other places for years. Again I am glad it is a fundraising solution as those who break the law should not get away with it. They should put more out there so lawbreakers are assesed the penalty related to their lawbreaking action. If you rent a car and get a ticket Avis or Hertz will charge you as they know who had the car at the tiome of the infraction incurring. Again it is the car owners responsibility just like if you lent out your car and there was an accident they will sue the car owner. |

Violations does not make a criminal | ||

Errrr lynbrookBridges.....A violation is not a crime. I guess you didn't know that. 2nd the law says the opposite of your feelings, so try to change it.
3rd the reason municipalities are getting away with it is because it has not been challenged, it will be here. You have no argument and the one you put forward
has no merit.

Mr Mmoryr
I am sorry you see the need to violate the law and run red lights when police are not around. You are wrong and the red light cameras are here to stay. I hope they put them up on every corner so people like you who feel the need to run red lights pay for violating the law. I hope you have to pay many of these tickets over the years and help fund the budget. Too bad you lose on this one. |

Mr Mmoryr
I am sorry if you do not think there is due process but I belive as with every ticket a person receives there is a porcess to plead not guilty and to see a judge to plead your side of the case. If you have a good explnation why your car in the piicture with your license plat is going through a red light tan I hope the judge would listen to it. If you are saying the judges dont listen to your case that is a seperate issue. Bur I am sure if there is a good reason why you think the picture is faulty or there was a reason you were running a red light I would think that by being able to plead not guilty and going to a judge is due process. But if you think the cameras are in some way rigged maybe you can prove that. ButI would think that with all the places that use these type of cameras if there were significant problems we would of heard of it by now. Of course if you don't run a red light this will never be a probelm. |

Mr Mmoryr
It seems to be the facts are over your head in that numerous other areas use red light cameras without any problems and Nassau will use them too. It is about time Nassau installs them and I would hope every other municipality installs them also. I hope you stop running red lights so you dont have to pay all those tickets. |

I am not a fan of the red light cameras but I must say that Bridges makes a much better argument.

Nassau County residents are getting a Labor Day weekend surprise - 13 more intersections with red light cameras to catch violators.
