For the first time in many months, I attended Third Party Club last night. I met Republican Judy Giglio again - a woman who is running for Riverhead town board. I first met her at the CSA meeting at the Riverhead American Legion on Hubbard Avenue.
Among the others who attended were Peter Busacca, our candidate in the 5th LD, Gene Henley, Barry Loberfeld, Bob Olson, Matthew Groh, a former judge whose Integrity Party screening I remember sitting in on a few years ago, and other regulars. Matthew Groh is running for county legislator. Also present was Lee Zeldin and Greg Fischer.
Although host Gary Newman was present, I did not see Frank McKay.
Well, it was a strange sort of topic from the guest speaker last night.. When I first heard that a special agent with the FBI was going to be a guest speaker, I thought the topic would perhaps be the Homeland Security 'report' on its view of who is a 'right-wing extremist', or something along those lines. I expected maybe a vigorous question and answer session afterwards on what exactly is going on with our government when it decides to target people based on nothing more than political views.
Instead, the guest speakers, a man and a woman (I forget their names), droned on and on about forensics: the real story as opposed to what is shown on such programs like CSI.
It was slightly amusing to see a large part of the crowd, during the presentation, drift from the tables back to the bar --- carrying on their conversations.
All I can say is this: a poke in the eye with a sharp stick would have been more entertaining.
Most of us were grateful when the lecture came to an end so we can start eating!
