Are the Hamptons becoming "ghetto?" |

Think about all this. People come to the Hamptons. Death at the Publick House. Death at the Diner (started at the Whitehouse). Massive drug bust at Neptunes.
Boardy Barn runs King Kullen out of the strip mall, as bar patrons were peeing in the aisles (you couldn't pay me enough to work there). And these bars
aren't even cool any more. They are playing dumbed-down crud. People come to the Hamptons and see police checkpoints and hundreds of guys standing on the
corner looking for work. It's just not the same. Add a Casino, and it's Atlantic City!
Would you send your 19 year old kid from Queens out here now? |

This is why year-round Hamptons people all go upstate to escape for vacations!

Most of the crap that happens in the Hamptons is from the citidiots coming out east to frequent these bars. Do you guys ever notice the gold chains, trans ams,
and shirts so tight that my 14 year old couln't wear them. Then we have the rest of the city, who you would swear has never seen a pumpkin in their life!
Sit tight for the next 5 months people...."It's only just begun"!

They brought ghetto here from up west | ||
|
The majority of the People from "up West" think we are country bumpkins. They say oh how nice you live here all year round what do you do in the
winter? Is so quaint here. They ask questions about vegetables, shopping, restaurants like these things do not exist anywhere but the NYC boroughs. Every thing
they wear, drive and eat is designer labeled , expensive and organic? I was at a farm stand recently and a woman in high heels, walking her miniature
greyhound, with her coach purse wanted to know why the air smelled funny, I said "what do you mean funny"? she says it smelled like manure, 100 yards
away are horses...duh. "is the "sweet corn sweet"? Are the strawberries really local? They believe we all wear overalls, sleep in flannel and
drive beat up pick ups, Ah yup. This is green acres. The ghetto comes from up west, they import it out here. They can be rude, trashy and always in a hurry. I
know they support our economy here but give us a break and some respect.

Well, because of where they live, they earn a lot more money than us on average. They like to spend it and show it off. And we all know people who live out
here who are "afraid" to go to Manhattan. Maybe some of us are bumpkins.
It is East End people, year-rounders, who marketed the whole "Hamptons," "North Fork," "Twin Forks," etc., branding. Dan's Papers, for example, has done tons to promote a certain perspective of the Hamptons that may be different than many of us locals know. Not a bad or a good thing. It is Dan's vision, and he has a right to it. Perception is created by two entities: Government and Media. I think, locally, it's the former that can sometimes lack vision more than the latter in helping us create a true utopia. The media does a good job; and its level of sophistication differentiates us from being East Bumblef***. The government, especially in Riverhead, well, that's a different story...

Mr. Suffolk, nothing against Italian Americans...I'm one myself, but they do dress differently from "up west" and we can spot them a mile away! I
was a farm stand last summer(my mistake I happened to go on a Saturday) and one woman asked me "Can't you come here during the week"? It would
have really made my day to plant her in a pumpkin! I agree, the north fork and Hamptons are being sensationalized, thus it does help our economy. As far as the
Government here in Riverhead...let's hope that with the coming up election we can change that!
